We have a new arrival in our Hunter Valley range in the form of Tempranillo. This red grape variety is originally from Spain and Portugal, where it is used to make red wines, from light to full bodied and as a blending variety for fortified wines, mainly in Portugal.
Our decision to convert part of our vineyard to Tempranillo has come about to give you and our fellow wine drinkers another option in our varietal portfolio. Through our
research we believe this variety has a good a affinity to Hunter Valley as it ripens earlier on than most other red varieties.
With our first attempt at it we have crafted a wine that is best described as having a red garnet colour. On the nose it displays a oral lift, plums and strawberry of great intensity. The palate has cherry and red fruits flavours, light to medium in body and the tannins are rm and assertive with a savoury finish. With its firm tannins, we recommend consumption with tapas, pasta, lasagne and not to be forgotten, the good old Aussie barbecue.
