2021 Catherine Chardonnay
draytons 3rd generation
Generations range pays tribute to members of the Drayton Family, who distinguished themselves with extraordinary contributions to the betterment of the Drayton brand, as well as to the region's wine community.
Generations wines are a limited range, made only from the most highly rated vintages, using grapes carefully picked and graded to ensure premium quality.
Catherine Drayton, née Kime (1898 – 1981), was the wife of Walter - a Third Generation Drayton, and the mother of Max - the future leader of the Draytons Wines business. She had a strong wine-related background - her father, George Kime, grew grapes and operated a cellar door in Hunter Valley.
Catherine was Draytons first proper Marketing Manager, creating the role after her husband's untimely death. She utilised her wine background and knowledge to actively promote the Draytons brand to both custoners and the wine industry, thus helping establish Draytons Wines as one of the iconic Hunter Valley wineries.
Together with her brother-in-law, Lennard, Catherine guided and groomed her son Max Drayton for his future leadership role at Draytons Wines.
2021 Catherine Chardonnay has aromas of rockmelon and ripe peach, intertwined with vanillan oak and a hint of nuttiness. The palate is elegant and complex, with layers of orange fruit, balanced by creamy, textural nuances. An underlying minerality provides structure and a crisp, lengthy finish.
Enjoy with cooked seafood, lobster, grilled prawns, chicken salad, roast turkey, creamy pasta dishes and smoked cheddar.
